Who Is Liz Davies?
Most coverage of Liz Davies starts and ends with Deal or No Deal. That shortchanges her considerably.
Elizabeth Davies had been working professionally as a television and film makeup artist since 1991, more than 15 years before she ever met Noel. Her credits include Bhaji on the Beach (1993), the TV mini-series Seaforth (1994) and Bloodsuckers (2000), among others. She was an established industry professional when she arrived on the Deal or No Deal set in 2006, brought in that day as a stand-in makeup artist, not as a regular member of the show’s crew.
Before Noel, she was married to cameraman Nathan Ridler, with whom she has two sons. Their names have never been released publicly, a line of privacy both she and Noel have held consistently.
How Was Liz Davies’ Age Confirmed?
Liz’s birth year of 1970 is supported by two independent data points. When Noel’s engagement was announced publicly in late 2008, press reports at the time noted he had proposed to a 38-year-old. That figure, combined with Heart’s profile of Liz, updated as recently as February 2026 and still listing her age as 55, produces the same conclusion. She is 55 years old in 2026, with her birthday falling in the second half of the year.
How Noel and Liz Met
The meeting happened in a dressing room on the Deal or No Deal set in 2006. Liz was working as a stand-in that day. At the time, she was still married to Nathan Ridler.
What makes the story unusual is that Noel says he knew she was there before he even looked up. The couple later traced the exact moment, and to this day they set the clocks in their home to 11:06am in recognition of it.
Noel told Hello! magazine at their wedding: “Something strange happened and here we are. To start with it was all very professional but there was a look in both our eyes. If you speak to Liz she will say she didn’t sleep for three nights and I couldn’t stop thinking about her.”
Liz recalled it on Loose Women: “I knew who he was. When we met, I had a picture on my wall when I was little. When we met it was extraordinary.”
The Proposal: A Russian Palace and a ยฃ30,000 Ring
After the two began a relationship, Noel spent three months planning a proposal.
He chose the snow-covered gardens of the Catherine Palace outside St Petersburg, the former residence of the Russian Tsars, as his location. In his coat pocket was a ยฃ30,000 engagement ring from London jeweller Theo Fennell.
“I wanted it to be a special place and there is nowhere more romantic as the gardens of the palace when it is snowing,” Noel told Hello!. “I said, ‘Will you marry me?’ and to my great delight she said yes.”
He then announced the engagement at his own 60th birthday party in December 2008, a party Liz had secretly organised.
The Wedding: July 23, 2009
Noel and Liz married at Lower Slaughter Manor, a 17th-century manor house in the Cotswolds, with the day covered exclusively by Hello! magazine. It was a deliberately small affair.
On the day:
- Liz wore an oyster satin gown with a crystal-encrusted bodice, made by close friend Dio
- 40 guests attended, including her two sons and some of Noel’s daughters
- The civil ceremony was held in the manor’s drawing room
- The party then walked to St Mary’s Church next door for a blessing
- Noel’s best man was his longtime friend Mike, the same man who stood beside him at his first wedding, 38 years earlier
It was Noel’s third marriage. He had previously been married to Gillian Slater from 1971 to 1982, and to Helen Soby from 1986 to 2005, with whom he has four daughters: Charlotte, Lorna, Olivia and Alice. After his second divorce, he had said publicly he would not marry again. He changed his mind.
What Liz Does Now: River Haven, New Zealand
In 2016, Noel and Liz visited New Zealand and, by their own account, felt an immediate connection to the country. They emigrated in 2019, gaining residency in February 2020, and settled in Ngฤtฤซmoti on the South Island.
The project that followed was far larger than most expected. Noel spent an estimated $30 million acquiring 12 properties in the Motueka Valley, building what they now call River Haven. The site includes:
- A vineyard
- A cafรฉ
- A general store
- A pub named The Bug*er Inn
Liz runs the operation alongside him on a daily basis. The couple described their intention in their own words: “Liz and I had always harboured the ambition of creating a Positivity Haven, a place where like-minded people could come together, express opinions, offer guidance and share life experiences.”
The project divided local opinion. One resident told New Zealand’s Stuff website: “I feel like he’s a coloniser. He’s come in like the lord of the manor.” Noel responded directly: “I’m here to give, to make a difference. I haven’t just been buying property for the sake of it.”
Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure (ITV, 2025)
In June 2025, ITV broadcast Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure, a three-part documentary following the couple’s life on the South Island. Liz appeared throughout the series, which covered both the River Haven project and the personal story behind the move.
During filming, Noel described Liz as his “earth angel” and said: “I knew she was in the room before I turned around. The sustenance of her energy is my life blood. You will never ever pull us apart, because we are one.”
The series brought the couple back into British living rooms for the first time in years. Liz Davies was 55 when it aired, and across the nearly two decades since that unplanned morning on a Deal or No Deal set, the same thread runs through all of it: she organised his 60th birthday party, built a business in rural New Zealand, and is, by Noel’s own account, the person he knew was in the room before he had even turned around to look.
