Micah Diamond has photographed two of his father Neil Diamond’s albums and co-founded a photography company with his older brother. He has run his own photography business for more than two decades. In that time, he has never given an interview.
He is the younger of Neil Diamond’s two sons, born in 1978 to the singer and his second wife, Marcia Murphey. Search results for this name can be confusing, since there is also a teenage pop singer named Micah Diamond, based in Sydney, Australia. The two share a name and nothing else.

Family background
Neil Diamond’s first marriage, to Jaye Posner, ended in 1969. He married Marcia Murphey, a television production assistant, that December. Micah was their second child, born eight years after his older brother, Jesse. His two older half sisters, Marjorie and Elyn, came from their father’s first marriage.
| Sibling | Born | Mother |
|---|---|---|
| Marjorie Diamond | 1965 | Jaye Posner |
| Elyn Diamond | 1968 | Jaye Posner |
| Jesse Diamond | 1970 | Marcia Murphey |
| Micah Diamond | 1978 | Marcia Murphey |
Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey separated in the mid 1990s, while Micah was still in high school. Neil Diamond’s brother, Harvey, told PEOPLE around that time that the singer “was always there, emotionally, when the kids really needed him.”
Neil Diamond has said his sons grew closer to him afterward. “They’ve become very protective of me,” he told PEOPLE. “They will call me, saying, ‘How ya doing, Dad? Come on, let’s go out for breakfast.'”
From Boulder to a career in photography
Micah studied communication at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1996 to 2000. He founded his own photography business in January 2002, working out of New York City, and later served as creative director at SchnApps.
He lived there for years, including in a four bedroom townhouse condo on the Upper West Side that later sold for close to $4 million, according to the New York Post. His photography site now lists him as a freelance commercial photographer based in Los Angeles.
Eyeist
In 2011, Micah co-founded Eyeist with Jesse, along with photography consultant Allegra Wilde and developer Doug Dawirs. The platform connected photographers with industry professionals for portfolio reviews. Photographers could send in a portfolio and get audio feedback within 72 hours, or book a live session with a reviewer of their choice. Micah handled the business side, while Jesse, who studied at the California Institute of the Arts, led the creative side. Eyeist ran for close to a decade before closing down around 2020.
Photographing his father
Micah’s photography is rarely reported on beyond his family, but the photos he has taken of his father have been credited publicly twice. He shot images used around Neil Diamond’s 2016 record, Acoustic Christmas. Four years later, Neil Diamond sent him somewhere bigger: Abbey Road Studios in London.
For Classic Diamonds, the 2020 album pairing Neil Diamond’s biggest hits with new arrangements from the London Symphony Orchestra, the singer asked Micah to document the recording sessions. Ari Michelson shot the album cover, and Jesse contributed some images too, but most of the photography inside the record came from Micah.
Neil Diamond, who announced his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2018, spoke about the sessions in a Forbes interview published in November 2020.
“He took it with a lot of soul and a lot of passion and he nailed it.”
Neil Diamond, on his son’s photography, in the Forbes interview
What mattered more to Neil Diamond than the photographs themselves was a letter Micah wrote him afterward. He said it “almost made me cry,” because his son had understood exactly what he had witnessed in that room.
Jesse, not Micah, photographed Wild at Heart, Neil Diamond’s newest album, released in May 2026. The photography credits on Neil Diamond’s records have gone to different family members over the years. Micah has never had a standing professional arrangement to photograph his father’s work. Each time has come down to being asked.
On his personal Instagram account, which has fewer than 100 followers, Micah describes himself as “Photographer. Entrepreneur. Husband. Father.” He does not name a spouse or say how many children he has.
That account, and a handful of photography credits, make up nearly everything publicly known about him. He has never explained any of it publicly.
