The Woman Behind the Name
Rhian Leo, born Rhian Wade, is not a public figure by any measure. She does not appear on her husband’s shows, does not attend industry events alongside him, and has no active public profile of any kind. For someone married to a prime-time broadcaster, that consistency is notable.
Ben has spoken about Rhian in his own writing and in GB News features, always in terms of what she means to the family rather than anything that puts her directly in focus. Her profession, hometown, and personal background have not been made public. That is not a gap in what has been reported. It is a boundary both of them have held firmly as Ben’s career has grown from local newspapers to a Washington DC bureau.
When Did Ben Leo Get Married?
Ben and Rhian married in December 2023, in a private Catholic church ceremony attended by close family and friends. There was no public announcement and no press coverage around the time.
They had been together for several years before the wedding. By December 2023 they already had two children, and the family had been functioning as a unit long before the marriage made it official.
Two Sons, Two Very Different Arrivals
Ben Leo and his wife Rhian have two sons: Jude, the older, and Zach, the younger. Both names come directly from Ben himself, through a bylined piece he wrote for The Critic magazine in September 2023 and through GB News coverage.
The stories behind how they arrived are not ordinary.
Jude was born six weeks early, at 34 weeks, while Ben was on a work assignment in Sofia, Bulgaria. The call came at midnight. Ben was alone in his hotel room when his mother-in-law rang in tears: “You’ve got a beautiful baby boy.” He missed the birth entirely, not by choice, but because Jude arrived ahead of schedule while his father was thousands of miles away on the job.
Zach was born in early 2023, at home. On the living room floor. That time, Ben was there.
As Ben wrote in The Critic: both boys “specialise in dramatic arrivals.”
Ben Leo on Family Life: In His Own Words
In September 2024, GB News published a feature in which Ben described his perfect day off. It is the most detailed public account of what the Leo household actually looks like day to day.
The day starts with sunlight coming through the blinds. No alarm. A morning gym session. After that, the rest of the day belongs to his sons.
Jude, the older boy, is obsessed with tennis and Formula 1. He has told his dad he wants to be an F1 driver. Ben takes him go-karting and gets in the kart himself rather than watching from the barrier. On the cost of making it to Formula 1, Ben wrote:
“I haven’t told him yet that F1 drivers are a very select and unique set of human beings. Not many people have the chance to become one, primarily because it costs so much money. I think I remember seeing a study somewhere showing it costs around a staggering ยฃ10 million to get from bambino karting to Formula 1. Anyway, no chance I’m ever going to pop his dreams.”
The family are regulars at Wakehurst Place in Haywards Heath and Nymans near Crawley, both in West Sussex. Ben mentioned wanting to take them to Kew Gardens. Jude, who follows how plants grow with genuine interest, gives the family a morning update from the garden on the tomato plants: “It’s almost red mummy, it’s nearly ready!”
By evening, the boys are bathed and put to bed. Ben and Rhian settle on the sofa together. She watches a reality show. He catches up on the news on his phone. He ended the piece: “They are my everything.”
Three Times the Leo Family Appeared in Public
The family has been seen together publicly on three separate occasions.
April 2025 โ Jude’s tennis tournament. Ben attended one of Jude’s matches, then went straight from the stands to his weekend GB News show. He apologised on air for a hoarse voice, attributing it to his voice giving out mid-broadcast the previous evening, though a night out with colleagues Bev Turner and Alex Armstrong had also taken place. The tennis trip came first.
October 2025 โ The White House. With President Trump travelling in Asia, Ben and GB News colleague Bev Turner took their families on a behind-the-scenes tour of the White House press room. Rhian was there alongside Jude and Zach. With Halloween days away, Jude showed up in a werewolf mask. Ben conducted a mock press briefing with him on camera:
“Welcome to the White House press briefing room. Have you scared all the reporters off? They’re all fake news, aren’t they… So President Trump got you in to scare them off.”
It was one of the few times Rhian has appeared in any public-facing coverage.
April 2026 โ Artemis II Moon launch. Ben brought Jude to Florida to watch NASA’s Artemis II mission lift off in person, the first crewed lunar mission in more than 50 years. Speaking to GB News viewers afterwards, Ben said: “It was like a rolling stream of thunder which gripped your body.” He was visibly moved by it. That he took his son rather than watched it as a journalist alone reflects where his head was at that moment.
Where Is the Family Based Now?
Ben relocated to Washington DC in August 2025 to launch The Late Show Live on GB News alongside Bev Turner. In January 2026, it was confirmed he would remain in America as the channel’s first ever Chief US Correspondent.
Whether Rhian and the boys moved with him has not been publicly confirmed. Jude’s presence at the Artemis II launch in Florida in April 2026 strongly suggests the family is now US-based, at least for the foreseeable future.
What the public record adds up to, pieced together from Ben’s own writing and three years of GB News coverage, is a man who has always brought his family with him. Not in the sense of putting them on camera, but in the real sense. A midnight call in a Sofia hotel room. A rocket launch on a Florida coast. The details he chose to share, and the ones he chose not to, tell you more about Rhian Leo’s role in his life than any interview could.
