Kerr’s marriage to Orlando Bloom ended in the four years between the pictures. On 24 September she told Jessica Rowe’s podcast that she went through some depression afterwards.
The Australian model Miranda Kerr and the Oscar-winning actor Reese Witherspoon have been photographed together at two of Vanity Fair’s Oscar parties. At Sunset Tower in West Hollywood in February 2013 they were pictured with Orlando Bloom, Kerr’s husband at the time, and in Beverly Hills in February 2017 they posed side by side.
Kerr and Bloom announced their separation in October 2013. “After we separated, I went through a little bit of, like, depression,” Kerr told the Australian broadcaster Jessica Rowe on her podcast, The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show, in an episode released on 24 September and reported by Us Weekly.
By the second party, Witherspoon’s company Pacific Standard had made its first films, Gone Girl and Wild, and she had produced and starred in HBO’s Big Little Lies.
Kerr and Witherspoon are not known to be friends, and neither has been quoted talking about the other. As of 29 September, Kerr follows Witherspoon on Instagram, but Witherspoon, who follows only about 1,200 accounts, does not follow her back.

In Kevin Mazur’s picture, Bloom is smiling and Kerr, standing next to him, is turned towards Witherspoon. The couple had married in 2010, and their son, Flynn, had turned two that January.
Witherspoon was then married to the talent agent Jim Toth; they announced their divorce in 2023. In 2012 she had set up Pacific Standard with the producer Bruna Papandrea, but none of its films had come out yet.
Kerr’s separation from Orlando Bloom
The couple’s October 2013 statement, issued through a representative, said they had been “amicably separated for the past few months”. It went on: “Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family.”
Kerr told Net-a-Porter’s magazine The Edit in 2017: “It was the right thing to do; we weren’t bringing out the best in each other.” In August 2026 she described Bloom as “like a brother” on Kristin Cavallari’s podcast, Let’s Be Honest.
Talking to Rowe about her depression, she said:
“It was so odd for me because I’m a naturally joyful person. And, like, my mother would call me Giggly Gertrude.”
Kerr added that she and Bloom “remained super friendly and close throughout it all and have put the needs of Flynn first”.
What Witherspoon said about her divorce from Ryan Phillippe
In March 2006 Witherspoon won the best actress Oscar for Walk the Line, and that October a representative announced that she and Ryan Phillippe had “decided to formally separate”. The statement asked the public to “respect their privacy and the safety of their children”. Witherspoon filed for divorce in November 2006, citing irreconcilable differences.
In December 2014, the month Wild opened in American cinemas, she told Charlie Rose on CBS’s 60 Minutes that she spent “a few years just trying to feel better” after the divorce and had been “just kind of floundering career-wise”. She recalled reading a list of “the people who are washed-up” in a New Yorker article. “I think it included me, Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson,” she said. “It really hurt my feelings.”

Wild had brought Witherspoon a second Oscar nomination in 2015, and HBO had begun showing Big Little Lies, her series with Nicole Kidman, on 19 February, a week before the party.
By then Kerr was engaged to Evan Spiegel, a co-founder of Snap. She has said they met at a Louis Vuitton event in 2014. They married in Los Angeles in May 2017, three months after the party, and have three sons together, Hart, Myles and Pierre.

- The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund show at the Chateau Marmont on 21 October 2014. Witherspoon, a co-host, wore an Oscar de la Renta dress; the designer had died the day before.
